Book Excellence Playa Mujeres on Expedia
Picking from the best all-inclusive resorts in Cancun is harder than it looks, because there are really two Cancuns. There's the Hotel Zone, the long strip of resorts with the nightlife, the shopping and the crowds. And there's Playa Mujeres, a quieter gated stretch of beach just north of the city. Where you stay changes your whole trip, and almost nobody explains the difference.
Some popular "best Cancun resorts" lists even include resorts that are really in Playa del Carmen, about an hour south. So we went through thousands of guest reviews from TripAdvisor, Google, Expedia and Booking.com, mostly from the last 12 months, and scored every resort out of 10 for the beach, the food, the rooms, the service and the value. Here's the honest countdown, with what guests love and what they don't.
Hotel Zone vs Playa Mujeres: Read This First
Cancun's bay side, meaning Playa Mujeres and the top of the Hotel Zone, has calmer water and usually gets less seaweed in summer. The long stretch that faces the open sea gets more waves and more seaweed. Keep that in mind as you compare these resorts.

#5: Hyatt Ziva Cancun
Nothing on this list beats its location. Hyatt Ziva sits right at the tip of Punta Cancun with ocean on three sides, so almost every room looks out at the water. Families love it, but there's also an adults-only section called Turquoize. You can walk to Coco Bongo and the bars at night, which you can't do from most all-inclusives, and it's one of the best ways to spend Hyatt points anywhere.
Pros: unbeatable location, ocean views, walkable nightlife, great value on Hyatt points
Cons: standard rooms are small and often called dated; pools and the breakfast buffet get packed; service slows when it's full; food gets mixed reviews
Best for: Hyatt points travelers and anyone who wants nightlife nearby
Score: 8.3 out of 10
Come for the location and the points, not the room.
#4: Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach
For families, this could easily be the top pick. It's the big pink resort on the calm bay side of the Hotel Zone. Every suite faces the ocean, there are 10 restaurants including Le Basilic, a French restaurant with a AAA Five Diamond rating, and the pools are some of the best in Cancun. The water out front is calm, which is perfect for kids, and there's a free kids club. It also sits in the top five Cancun hotels on TripAdvisor from almost 12,000 reviews.
Pros: calm water, great pools, free kids club, all-ocean-view suites, walkable shopping and nightlife
Cons: narrow beach; average main breakfast buffet; value is its lowest TripAdvisor score; dinner at the French restaurant can cost extra; some guests say the check-in welcome meeting turned into a sales pitch
Best for: families who want good food and calm water
Score: 8.6 out of 10
#3: Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun
This is the one a lot of people expect at the top. On paper it's Cancun's best: adults only, #2 in Cancun on TripAdvisor, AAA Five Diamond, butlers on every floor, and a spa hydrotherapy circuit that's included. Guests name the staff over and over in their reviews.
So why third? Price and age. It's the most expensive resort on this list, and recent reviews say the building is showing its years.
Pros: standout service, butlers, included spa circuit, adults only
Cons: small entry rooms and tiny balconies for the price; recent photos of dated rooms and patchy repairs; mixed reviews on the drinks, the steakhouse and beach service; in the middle of the Hotel Zone where summer seaweed can be a problem
Best for: couples who want to be pampered and don't mind the price
Score: 8.7 out of 10
You're paying for the service and the name, not the rooms.
#2: Atelier Playa Mujeres
If you plan your trips around food, this is your resort. It's on the quiet Playa Mujeres side, in a gated community, and it's the #1 hotel there on TripAdvisor. There are 13 restaurants, and one of them, Maria Dolores, is recommended by the Michelin Guide. Forbes called it the best all-inclusive in Mexico for foodies. Most restaurants don't need a reservation, the suites are big and modern, and reviewers keep pointing out how clean it is. It's a five-star resort for guests 16 and up.
Pros: the best food in Cancun, big modern suites, very clean, calm bay-side water
Cons: thermostats that won't adjust; the steakhouse gets knocked for tough meat; many of the best perks (like the daytime rooftop pool and Maria Dolores) are locked behind the Inspira upgrade, and some guests call the upgrade pitch pushy; about 35 minutes from the airport with nothing to walk to outside the gates
Best for: foodies and couples
Score: 8.9 out of 10
#1: Excellence Playa Mujeres
No resort in the Cancun area has stronger guest scores. Excellence Playa Mujeres is adults only and sits right next door to Atelier on the same calm bay. It holds a 4.9 out of 5 on Google from more than 16,000 reviews. There are 11 restaurants, seven pools, swim-up suites and two-story rooftop suites with their own plunge pool. Guests praise the service and the beach, and it has stayed this good for about a decade.
Pros: the most consistent guest reviews in Cancun, calm water and less seaweed, lots of pools and restaurants, great suites
Cons: beach chairs run short; no restaurant reservations, so expect waits at peak dinner time (go earlier); some find the food uneven; big grounds that are easy to get lost in; many guests say you need the Excellence Club upgrade to avoid crowds; no nightlife nearby
Best for: couples who want the best overall all-inclusive in Cancun
Score: 9.2 out of 10
It isn't cheap, but guests rave about this resort more consistently than any other in Cancun.
Resorts We Left Off (and Why)
Secrets The Vine Cancun: it's on almost every Cancun list, and guests love the staff and the entertainment. But recent reviews are more mixed than its score suggests, with complaints about the food, upselling, room temperature, noise and a building that needs work. For the price, the five above are better bets.
Hyatt Zilara Cancun: it reopened in May 2026 after a full rebuild. Everything is new and the early reviews look great, but a few months isn't enough to judge, so we're giving it a year before we rank it.
