7 Apps That Pay You To Play Games on Your Phone
Apps that pay you to play games are everywhere right now, and most of them promise way more than they deliver. So I downloaded seven of them, played on each one, and tracked every dollar against every hour I put in.
Below is what each app really pays, how low the cashout goes, how fast the money lands, and which game app I'd start with if you want to earn money playing games on your phone without wasting your time.
How I Tested These Game Apps
Every app on this list works a little differently. Some pay for raw playtime, some pay for hitting milestones inside a game, and some pay you to test brand-new games. That changes everything about what you'll earn per hour.
For each one, I looked at four things:
The real hourly rate, not the marketing number
The minimum cashout
How fast the first payout arrives
How you get paid (PayPal, gift cards, crypto and so on)
1. Mistplay: The Most Trusted Name, Lowest Hourly Pay
Mistplay is the most established get-paid-to-play-games app out there. It runs on Android and iOS (no PC or web version) and has the deepest game library of anything I tested. It has paid out over $260 million since 2016, and the average time to a first payout is about 3 hours.
The catch is the rate. In my testing it worked out to roughly $0.50 to $2 an hour, with the best earnings in your first week on any new featured game. It's reliable and polished, but on a pure hourly basis it was the lowest-paying app of the bunch.
2. Freecash: Milestone Game Offers That Pay the Most
Freecash isn't only a gaming app, but its game offers are some of the strongest I found. Reaching level 20 in a single game can pay $15 to $20, and some high-value offers run into the hundreds for multi-week play. You'll see big names like Monopoly and Candy Crush in the offer wall.
The trade-off: milestone offers take real time, sometimes weeks, and if you quit partway through you usually get nothing for the hours you already put in. Pick offers you'll actually finish.
Cashing out is where Freecash shines. You can withdraw to PayPal, Visa, bank transfer, Bitcoin and other crypto, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or branded gift cards. I covered the rest of the platform in my full Freecash review.
3. Cash Giraffe: Paid for Playtime, Low Cashout
Cash Giraffe pays you based on how long you play, not on hitting milestones. You install a featured game, play, complete a few surveys, earn gem bonuses, then redeem for PayPal cash or gift cards. Its minimum cashout is very low, so it's one of the quickest apps here to see a first payout.
How much can you make with Cash Giraffe? A casual player putting in 2 to 3 hours a week can expect around $5 to $20 a month. An active player with 5+ hours a week can get to roughly $100 a month. Your results will depend on how much time you put in.
4. JustPlay: The Fastest PayPal Cashout
JustPlay works a lot like Cash Giraffe, but with its own library of games. You play, collect coins, and convert them into real cash.
Its standout feature is that there's no minimum on your very first cashout, and PayPal payouts can land within the hour. That makes JustPlay the fastest app on this list for seeing real money hit your account. The app is clean and easy to use, and I didn't run into any disappearing rewards. If you want more detail, I did a full JustPlay review too.
5. KashKick: Get Paid To Test New Games
KashKick gets some scam accusations online, but I've used it personally and got paid. Instead of rewarding long playtime, it pays you to test new games as they hit the app stores, and some game-testing offers pay in the $150 to $250 range.
It rates well on review platforms for transparency and payout speed, and it pairs game testing with surveys and other offers, so there's more to earn on the side. If you like survey apps too, Swagbucks works on a similar mix of offers.
6. Scrambly: The $1 Minimum Cashout
Scrambly had the cleanest onboarding of every app I tested and the lowest minimum cashout in the whole category: just $1. I crossed that threshold within about 30 minutes of casual play.
The ongoing rate is modest, so this isn't where you'll make your biggest money. But if you want the quick win of seeing your first cashout go through, Scrambly is the one. One note: availability can vary by region.
7. HeyCash: The Biggest Single-Game Payouts
HeyCash gave me the best raw payouts of anything I tested. I cleared several single-game payouts of $50 to $75 that I couldn't match on any other app on this list.
The trade-off is time. These are longer commitments, not quick wins, so plan on playing the same game for a while before you get paid.
The One Habit That Makes Game Apps Pay More
This is the most valuable thing I learned from testing all seven apps. The exact same game offer can pay wildly different amounts on different platforms, sometimes up to 40 times more for identical work.
So before you commit real time to any game offer, check it on four or five apps and take the best payout. It takes a couple of minutes and can make a huge difference to what you earn per hour.
Want more passive ways to stack small earnings on your phone? Apps like Honeygain pay you for unused internet bandwidth and run in the background while you play.
Which Game App Should You Start With?
Here's my honest ranking from testing:
Most reliable, steady casual earnings: Mistplay
Highest payout ceiling (if you'll commit to fewer games): Freecash and HeyCash
Fastest first cashout: Scrambly or JustPlay
Getting paid to test new games: KashKick
None of these apps will replace a full income on their own. But used smartly, they're a legit way to make extra money from your phone in time you'd spend gaming anyway. If you want bigger side income ideas, check out these side hustles that pay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do apps that pay you to play games really pay? Yes. Every app on this list paid out in my testing, but the hourly rates are low on most of them, so treat it as extra money, not a job.
Which game app pays the fastest? JustPlay has no minimum on your first cashout and can send PayPal payouts within the hour, and Scrambly lets you cash out from just $1.
Which game app pays the most? Freecash and HeyCash had the highest payouts, with milestone and single-game offers that can pay tens of dollars or more, but they take days or weeks to complete.
How much can you make playing games on your phone? Most casual players make a small amount each month, while active players who put in 5+ hours a week can get to around $100 a month on apps like Cash Giraffe.
The Bottom Line
Apps that pay you to play games are real, but they reward patience and smart choices. Start with Scrambly or JustPlay for a quick first cashout, use Mistplay for steady casual earnings, and go after Freecash and HeyCash offers when you're ready to commit to one game. And always compare the same offer across a few apps before you start playing.
